Spirit Straight Key Adjustment Instructions

Basic Setup

Connecting to your Equipment

Included in the box with the key were a 3ft long audio cable and an adaptor.

1. Connect the 3.5mm /1/8th inch lead to the socket in the back of the key.

2. Connect the other end to your electronic keyer or radio, using the 1/4 inch adaptor if required.

3. You may need to configure your electronic keyer or radio for proper function. Please refer to your equipment instructions for this step.

Basic Adjustments

Arm Travel - Contact Gap Spacing

Included in the box with the key were three hex wrenches. These three hex wrenches should be everything you need to adjust the key to your preferences.

1. Remove the lid with the four screws using the smallest hex wrench.

2. Loosen the contact set screw a half turn using the long arm of the same hex wrench - accessible through the front hole on the side of the key.

3. With the same wrench, adjust the contact screw itself on the top front of the arm. Clockwise rotation makes the contact travel smaller, for less movement. Anti-clockwise for more movement and a larger gap.

4. Tighten the set screw on the side 1/2 turn to lock it in place.

5. Test the gap and repeat steps 2-4 until you have the gap adjusted just as you want it.

6. Replace the lid and its four screws.

NOTE: If you have an intermittent contact issue with the key, this is usually due to the contact set screw being left too loose in step 4. Please carefully tighten the set screw a little more and re-test.

Adjusting the arm pressure

The AF6L Spirit Straight Morse Key uses rare-earth magnets to provide consistent arm pressure and return.

1. Remove the lid with the four screws using the smallest hex wrench.

2. Loosen the two magnet set screws half a turn using the long arm of the smaller hex wrench through the two rear-most small holes on the side of the key as shown:

3. The magnet holders are adjustable using the largest hex wrench provided. You can adjust either or both magnets to vary the arm pressure as you like.

4: Clockwise rotation moves the magnets closer together for increased arm pressure. Anti-clockwise rotation moves the magnets further apart for reduced arm pressure.

5: Tighten the set screws on the side 1/2 turn to lock the magnets in place.

5. Test the pressure and repeat steps 2-5 until you have the arm pressure adjusted just as you want it.

6. Replace the lid and its four screws.

Swapping Out the Knobs

The two Delrin knobs supplied can be easily swapped out with the black aluminum finger pad.

There is a hex bolt underneath the arm that can be removed with the third hex key supplied.

Use the shorter bolt for the aluminum pad, and the longer bolt for the Delrin knobs.

The threads are different, so make sure not to use the wrong one.

Make sure the arm is aligned with the shaped underside of the knob before tightening.

Tighten snuggly, but don't overtighten to avoid damaging the Delrin thread.
